Session 4: Should I start a company?

Session summary: A general misconception is that if one is developing a new technology, a start-up company should be formed. But that is not necessarily the case. This session explores different paths that can be taken to develop technology and get it into the hands of the end user, including licensing, product acquisition, company formation and exit strategy. Important considerations that will be discussed are career interests of the clinician innovator (i.e., run a company vs practice medicine) and how the type of technology and its commercial potential can influence the path taken. If start-up company formation is the right path, what are key considerations in structuring a company?
